Zero Japan products are made of the finest porcelain quality clay. A lot of handwork is involved in the process from molding to glazing the products. The whole process including the firing in the kiln takes several days. The biscuit firing or first firing at a lower temperature is to dry the clay, after which the glaze is applied by hand. The second firing at a very high temperature for around 18 hours is to make the product waterproof and vitrify the glaze. The right temperature will bring out a brilliant shiny glaze and beautiful color.
The Japanese designer Koji Inoue designed the Zero Japan products with the following three concepts in mind: “highly functional”, “great to touch” and “a pleasure to the eye”.
This creamer is dishwasher- and microwave-safe.
Using and Caring for ZERO JAPAN Ceramics
ZERO JAPAN ceramics are made for regular use at the table and in the kitchen. Stoneware is a durable material and the glazes are developed to handle daily use, so with normal care the pieces last for many years. Like any ceramic, they can chip against hard surfaces, so some care when handling and washing is recommended.
Dishwasher and Microwave Use
Most ZERO JAPAN glazes are suitable for dishwasher and microwave use. Specialty finishes with a textured, metallic, or crackled surface require more careful handling and are best hand-washed to preserve the finish. The care instructions for a specific glaze are listed on each product page.
Tea Preparation
ZERO JAPAN teapots are designed for loose-leaf tea and everyday brewing. The stainless steel strainer and lid can be removed, making the teapot easy to clean after use. In most cases rinsing with warm water and letting it dry naturally is enough. If needed, a soft sponge removes tea residue.
Over time a teapot, cup, or mug may develop light staining inside from tea leaves. This is normal and does not affect the ceramic.
